London, Ontario July 26th Labatt Stadium

I caught the Toronto coach before the game and expressed to him how happy I was to once again see the Leafs play. Last time would have been sometime in the early 60’s when I would drive my old 53′ meteor from the suburbs of Agincourt to watch, what I thought, was pretty good baseball. The coach stared at me with a haggard gaze and said “Yah, I played then” before he turned and face the field. They lost the game.

London Had no trouble beating the Leafs 17 to 4 and until the 6th inning were playing no hit ball behind their hard throwing pitcher.
A couple of home runs by Toronto and our hometown thrower exited the mound to huge applause.

Good entertainment for only $8, about twice the price of 1963.

Just before showtime a large hawk went on display to the gathering fans as he held his flapping prey in his talons high up in the flood standards.

In the old Toronto Park “Over the 10-year span from 1951 to 1960, the Maple Leafs drew 3.2 million spectators, peaking in 1952 with 446,040 fans in attendance to see a team that finished in fourth place.” – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto_Maple_Leafs_(International_League)
